Coll Donaldson has joined Dundee United, the club have confirmed.

Donaldson joins the Scottish Premiership side on a free transfer after being released by Queens Park Rangers last week and puts pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club.

The 20-year-old leaves the London club after just 18 months on their books, having signed from Livingston in January 2014 for a fee of £150,000. However, during his time with QPR, Donaldson made just on appearance and will now return to the home country in search of regular football again, which he secured as a teenager with Livingston.

Manager and player both excited about move

Speaking about his new signing to the club's website, Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara called the youngster a "skilful, physical and quick" player who will "add to the competition amongst our defenders."

McNamara believes the club are "extremely fortunate" that the player suddenly became available, his contract at QPR terminated a year early, and added that it was "important" that they got to him "before others were aware" of his free agent status.

The player himself is also excited about the move, saying that "things have moved pretty quickly" but that he is "looking forward to playing in the tangerine jersey," admitting "it is great to sign the contract" with Dundee United.

Donaldson explained that he was persuaded to join the club because of "the manager's desire to sign [him]" as well as "his vision for taking the club forward." He elaborated, saying that these factors "convinced" him that he would be joining a club that is "the right place to enhance [his] development" and somewhere where he can "improve as a player."

The defender failed to make a single appearance for QPR in the 2014-15 season, with his sole display coming at the end of the 2013-14 campaign as he played the full 90 minutes in a 3-2 win over Barnsley in the Championship.
