QPR have agreed a deal to sign Dutch midfielder Tjaronn Chery for £2.25m from Groningen, according to reports in the Netherlands.

The London-club reportedly triggered a release clause in the contract of the midfielder.

Chery, 27, enjoyed a successful season at Groningen last season with 15 goals in 34 appearances.

He will join the R's, who are currently in Italy for pre-season, if he passes a medical this Monday.

QPR's bank balance received a boost following Raheem Sterling's move from Liverpool to Manchester City. The R's receive 20% of the fee after a sell-on clause was agreed in 2010 when Sterling moved from QPR to Liverpool.

Chery should give QPR a new dimension

He started his career with Twente, where he had loan spells at SC Cambuur and RBC Roosendaal. He then moved on to Ereste Divisie club FC Emmen where he earned a chance in the Eredivisie again with Ado Den Haag. From there he then made the move to Groningen where he has spent the last two season

His pace and eye for goal should make an exciting addition to the Championship and should Matt Phillips leave to a Premier League Club then QPR have ready made replacement for the former Blackpool midfielder.

He has also been subject to interest from Premier League clubs with Aston Villa unable to agree a deal after approaching Groningen.

Busy summer at Loftus Road

If he joins QPR he will become their eight senior summer signing following the arrivals of Jay-Emmanuel Thomas, Ben Gladwin, Massimo Luongo, Jamie Mackie, Jospeh N'Guessan, Axel Prohouly, Sebastian Polter and Tyler Blackwood.

While they have all signed for QPR, it looks as though Charlie Austin will be heading to Newcastle United. The North East club have also shown interest in midfielder Leroy Fer with new manager Steve McClaren reported to have been a big fan of Fer during his time at FC Twente.
