Arsenal have completed the signing of Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck for £16 million.

The Gunners made an eleventh hour bid for the England international, following an injury to Olivier Giroud which will keep him out until 2015.

"Good move for Welbeck and #AFC IMO. Could be the kick-start he needs. Attributes are there, needs a sustained run through middle," - James Ducker (@DuckerTheTimes, The Times)

The striker will sign a four-year contract, believed to be around £100,000-a-week, with the option for a fifth year at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger is currently in Rome, having refereed a charity match, however that has not stopped the Frenchman from making a move for Welbeck.

The 23-year old is currently with the England set up, who are training at Arsenal's London Colney headquarters, and had been on standby for a medical.

London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur were also in for Welbeck, however Arsenal was said to be his favoured destination.

Welbeck has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford following United's loan-signing of Radamel Falcao.

The Red Devils have also waved goodbye to Mexican, Javier Hernandez who has joined Champions League winners, Real Madrid on loan for the season.

Having represented England at every level, Welbeck has been a member of Manchester United since 2001, making his professional debut for the club in 2008.
