Arsenal focused on Lacazette talks as Giroud rumour mill goes into overdrive

The Gunners are getting closer to landing top target Lacazette in the coming weeks, but will that spell the end of the road for Giroud?

Arsenal are becoming ever confident of breaking their record transfer fee with the capture of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer, and will look to kick on with negotiations in the coming weeks.

Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas has stated that the club will only let Lacazette leave for the right price, with that thought to be in the region of £57million.

News broke towards the end of last week that Arsenal were in talks with Lyon, and had reportedly tabled an offer of around £44m - though the French side are set to be stubborn in their quest to get their price.

Lacazette arrival the end for Giroud?

IF Arsenal manage to pull off any deal for Lacazette, it would only mean bad news for Olivier Giroud, who's future at the club is very much in doubt.

Standard Sport have revealed that Giroud is set for fresh talks with the club at some point this week, as the Frenchman will look to clear up his position if Lacazette does join the club this summer.

It had been reported that Giroud could be made as part of the deal which sees Lacazette depart Lyon and Giroud go the other week.

And that rumour has become that extra bit stronger, as Lyon president, Aulas has declared that the club are interested in Giroud if Lacazette was to leave.

When talking to L'Equipe Aulas stated, "There's been an approach at some point for Giroud."

"He is a boy we like, who scores lots of goals and who has a lot of ambition for Russia (World Cup next year)."

West Ham are another club who have been heavily linked and would be happy to take Giroud off Arsenal's hands this summer, should the Frenchman decide to move on from North London after five years at the Emirates.

Could there still be a place for Giroud with Lacazette's arrival?

Arsene Wenger sees Giroud as a part of his plans next season, and would want him to ignite a friendly rivalry between himself and Lacazette to become Arsenal's first choice striker.

Though, Giroud could have the slight upper hand, as he is currently above Lacazette in the pecking order for the national team.

Giroud is a firm favourite with French boss, Didier Deschamps, constantly getting the nod over Lacazette to partner Atletico Madrid striker, Antoine Griezmann up top.

But you can't help but feel that if Lacazette is to be an Arsenal player next season, then he would most definitely be leading the line, regardless of Giroud's national team status.
