Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has come out with fighting talk, after his side were drawn against fierce rivals Birmingham City in the League Cup third round.

A dramatic 5-3 victory over Notts County did the job for the Villans on Tuesday evening, as Scott Sinclair's hat-trick helped them progress in extra time following a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes.

Birmingham beat Gillingham 2-0 to get through themselves, before the two were drawn together to set up the first game in over four years between the rivals, whose grounds are less than four miles away from eachother in the United Kingdom's second city.

Sherwood up for the cup

With the last game between the two teams having been contested so long ago, Sherwood has never had the chance to indulge in the game which his supporters will be readily marking on the calendar.

Asked about his response to the draw, Sherwood said that he immediately got the feeling as to "how important it is", which makes him even more determined to "give the fans something to shout about".

He did pay respect to the Blues, stating that the reason they'll be a challenge is because of "what they did tonight [2-0 win over Gillingham]". However, he insisted that his team "won't leave anything on the field" in their bid for success.

Adama fears, Traore tears

One major concern that came out of Tuesday's game was an injury to Adama Traore, who was forced off in the second half after receiving a blow to the ankle.

Sherwood confirmed the fans fears, explaining that "it doesn't look good" and that he "took a heavy knock" to the affected area.

Coming after an assist and a goal inside of his first 100 minutes of action for Villa, any long-term layoff would be a huge disappointment for the club. The manager admitted that getting such tackles would be a problem for the talented youngster, who he described as "a marked man".
