Joleon Lescott has expressed his delight at his transfer to Aston Villa, after he left West Brom to sign a two year deal at the Midlands club on Deadline Day.

With the clock ticking down on Tuesday afternoon, Villa eventually got the deal over the line, days after the Baggies' capture of Jonny Evans allowed them to begin negotiations over the move for the 33-year-old defender.

The Villans also completed deals for Matija Sarkic and Tiago Illori on the final day of the window, either side of the Lescott transfer being confirmed.

However, making Villa the third Midlands club of his career, following spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Brom, Lescott was certainly the biggest news of the day at Villa Park.

Joy for Lescott

Lescott was clealy overjoyed at getting the move finalised before the 6PM deadline, saying that he was "buzzing" to join Tim Sherwood and co, adding that he "can't wait" to get started with competitive action after the international break.

A Villa fan from a childhood age, Lescott confirmed that he "fell in love" with the club as a child, and this was a factor in deciding to make the move.

Meeting up with old friends

Having travelled up and down the country throughout his career, it's no surprise that Lescott will be linking up with some old friends at Villa Park.

Spells for Everton, Manchester City, the two aforementioned local teams and 26 England caps have seen him become a well known figure in the football world, especially to his potential centre back partner - captain Micah Richards.

Confirming that he's been "lucky enough" to link up with his new captain for both Manchester City and England, he praised him highly, explaining that he thinks he can go on to be "one of the top center halves".

Adding that he knows "Scotty [Sinclair], Gabby Agbolahor and Joe Cole", Lescott is nicely set up to make an instant impact at, what may well be, his last club.
