Republic of Ireland international David Meyler has admitted that Hull City face an uphill task to stay in the Premier League on their return to England's top flight.

"It'll be some story if we stay up"

The central midfielder claimed that the Hull squad are trying to focus on the task at hand despite the turmoil off the pitch. He explained "things have happened but we move on, that's all we can do as players. We're trying to just focus on the Premier League. What happens on the field we can't affect."

Yet Meyler believes that the Tigers face a struggle to retain their place in the Premier League, suggesting "we want to give this season a he'll of a go and it'll be some story if we stay up." He also explained how it's the teams job to take the fans' mind off the problems behind the scenes, claiming "we must do our jobs and we want people to forget about the stuff that's going on and focus on the team."

"You listen and learn from what he is saying"

Depsite a lack of signings and an injury crisis, the problems have allowed for Hull's youngsters to grasp opportunities and gain valuable experience. Defender Josh Clackstone has earned a lot of game time and explained "it's great to play alongside such experienced players because I can only learn from them".

One player that has been a great help to Clackstone is captain and central defensive partner Curtis Davies. The youngster explained "Curtis Davies talks you through the game and you listen and learn from what he is saying".

Torino defeat Hull in final pre-season game

Hull had enjoyed a positive pre-season on the pitch after remaining unbeaten almost the whole way through the summer. Yet a talented Torino side put them to the sword in Austria, as the Serie A club ran out 2-1 winners. The Italians enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages as Adem Ljajic forced Eldin Jakupovic into a smart stop.

Andrea Belotti deservedly opened the scoring for Torino after he was released behind the Hull defence, before Abel Hernandez quickly levelled after reacting quickest to his first shot being saved. The Uruguayan had chances either side of the break, before Adama Diomande headed over when he should have scored. The Tigers were eventually made to pay for their missed opportunities as a long range strike from Cesare Bovo won the game for Torino.

Hull flew back to England straight after the game and will now set their sights on their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime.
