After a disappointing 2014-15 Premier League season, Liverpool seem to be taking a step in the right direction.

The Reds are on the verge of completing the signing of Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino from German outfit Hoffenheim. Having agreed a deal with both player and club, only a work permit stands in the way of the Brazilian completing his switch to Anfield, which is likely to be completed after his national team duties.

According to various sources, a Liverpool delegation met Firmino’s representatives and a deal has been agreed in principle for the Hoffenheim attacker.

The price tag is expected to be within the region of 30 million, meaning he would become Liverpool’s second most expensive signing ever behind Andy Carroll’s January move in 2011.

Multiple clubs were rumoured to be pursuing the 23-year old, including both Manchester City and Manchester United but Liverpool have won the race for his signature.

Firmino represents huge coup for Liverpool

Big signings are necessary for Brendan Rodgers as he hopes to lead his side into the Champions League places again next season after managing just a Europa League place.

The Brazilian international has impressed during his stint in the Bundesliga, scoring 35 goals in 140 appearances for Hoffenheim, including seven during the 2014/15 campaign.

Slowly making a name for himself, Firmino is just one of many Brazilians to attract a lot of attention throughout European football. The forward is currently on international duty at Copa America in Chile and has impressed with his performances, including scoring Brazil’s winner against Venezuela in the group stage.

With Brazil’s talisman Neymar out for the rest of the tournament, Firmino is expected to start alongside possible future Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho against Paraguay on Saturday.

A successful remainder of the tournament would be a positive sign as Liverpool fans await eagerly to welcome their newest signing to Merseyside.
