Jürgen Klopp lambasted his Liverpool side's "rubbish" defending despite their enthralling 5-4 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon.

With second-half goals from captain Jordan HendersonRoberto Firmino, netting his second and James Milner reversing the scoreline from 3-1 to 4-3 in the Reds' favour, the visitors were just minutes away from seeing out the three points.

Sebastien Bassong's long-range drive from a loose ball in the second of five minutes of stoppage-time seemed to rescue the Canaries a late point, only for substitute Adam Lallana to go straight up the other end and fire Liverpool back in front with just 40 seconds remaining.

Despite the late drama, which resulted in ecstatic celebrations involving Klopp and his squad on the touchline and handed his side maximum points, the manager wasn't impressed with what he saw from his team's back-line at times in a hectic Barclays Premier League game.

Klopp says that Liverpool shouldn't have allowed Norwich into the game after scoring game's first goal

Speaking to the BT Sport afterwards, Klopp labelled it an "unbelievable game" and said that it was "not easy" for his team and that they had "a lot of problems"

He admitted, "I don't know what it was but it wasn't enough at the start of the game against a team searching for confidence" but added that his team "came into the game" and "played football."

Klopp said that they made it 1-0 and "should have made it 2-0" afterwards as Milner wasted a one-on-one opportunity and bemoaned the fact they "didn't do this" and allowed Norwich to get "more confidence" and change the game with "set-play, set-play, set-play."

But he also praised his side for coming "back into the game" in the second-half and creating what he called "beautiful goals" which got them back in the game with "good football play" as well as the finishes.

Reds boss feels his side's win was "deserved"

Klopp expressed his frustrations at the timekeeping, having been pictured questioning the decision to add on five minutes with the fourth official on the sidelines, saying that he "couldn't understand why" they added on so long.

But he refused to be drawn further on the matter, insisting that he didn't "want to make too big headlines" and said that they were "not too lucky or happy" that Norwich equalised late on, but said "that's the situation."

He said his side were the "deserved winner" in what was "a spectacular game" but said, "of course, everything could happen today."

German lament Reds' susceptibility at set-pieces

Expanding further on his frustrations at Liverpool's fragility at defending set-pieces, Klopp said they must work on ensuring they don't gift their opponents such cheap goals in the future.

He added that four goals from four set-plays "must be a new record" and that it would make "a new list for British football." The German insisted that "it is crazy" what his side are doing at defending free-kicks and corner-kicks, and declared that they must "solve this problem" as acknowledged that it's "not always possible" to score five goals in a game.

The Reds boss insisted that they knew it would be difficult against Alex Neil's side, but that they "wanted to win with all we have", and said it was tough  because Norwich "don't only play long balls" with "deep defending" and instead they "play football" and have "a good team with new players."

He revealed that Liverpool felt they could "make them problems" but said that they didn't do that, and insisted they "should not always concede goals after set-plays."

Klopp bemoaned that it's "easy to play against" Liverpool because the other team only has to "throw the ball over the line off a set-play" and declared, "If they don't do it, we will do it [for you]."

He said that it "feels funny" after the game but called it "really rubbish" what they are doing defensively, and said they have to "solve this" and insisted it's "about how you behave in the situation.

Problems cannot be solved by new signings, Klopp says

When asked whether the issue could be solved by buying new players, Klopp sarcastically remarked that he saw a list of "20 players on the market" who are "set-piece specialists" who they will "bring only on the pitch" at a set-piece, before adding: "No, we cannot solve this on the transfer market."
