Sheyi Ojo will miss most, if not all, of Liverpool's pre-season after Aidy Boothroyd selected the youngster as part of his England squad for the upcoming under-19 European Championships.

The former Watford boss has recognised Ojo's progress in the last 12 months by awarding him a place in his squad, with the England starlets to test themselves against other top footballing nations during the tournament, hosted by Germany later this month.

Ojo extremely unlikely to feature in US Tour

Whilst this is something for the 18-year-old to be proud of, he will miss out on the chance to impress Jürgen Klopp during Liverpool's pre-season tour of America, where they'll participate in the International Champions Cup.

England play France, Holland and Croatia in their group, with dates for those games commencing between July 12 - July 18, with the semi-final and final of the competition on July 21 and July 24 respectively.

Liverpool will fly to the states, where they're to face Chelsea, AC Milan and AS Roma, shortly after playing Huddersfield town on July 20, meaning the chances of Ojo getting on the trip are unlikely, especially given that he'll be given a short holiday period following the youth tournament.

He'll return with tough competition for places

There is the danger that Ojo could fall down the pecking order by missing pre-season, having risen to prominence with a string of impressive first team performances towards the end of last season.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Lazar Markovic, Jordon Ibe and Ryan Kent are all competing for starting spots in similar positions, so Ojo will be hoping to give Klopp something to think about by starring for England at the finals.
