A number of Liverpool's internationals returned to Melwood on Tuesday afternoon for first-team training prior to Saturday's showdown with Leicester City.

Jürgen Klopp's charges host the Premier League champions in their first Anfield fixture of the season immediately after a two-week international break.

With 11 of the Reds' senior squad having represented their countries across Europe and South America, those who played just one game - such as Sadio Mane, Daniel Sturridge and captain Jordan Henderson - reported back on Merseyside.

Handful of internationals back on Merseyside

Mane enjoyed a full session without any issues, having returned without injury on Monday to quash fears that he was suffering from a knock after earning his 37th cap in Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over Namibia.

He was joined by England quartet Henderson, Sturridge, Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana - who netted his first goal for the Three Lions in the 95th-minute of Sam Allardyce's first game as manager to lift them to a 1-0 win over Slovakia in a 2018 World Cup qualifier at the weekend.

Henderson started alongside Lallana and featured for 63 minutes, while Sturridge made a nine-minute cameo off of the bench and Clyne remained an unused substitute.

In more positive news, goalkeeper Loris Karius continued to step up his injury recovery - training alone with goalkeeping coach John Achterberg as he nears closer to full fitness.

The German suffered a broken hand in pre-season but has since had a second successful surgery to remove wire support put in to ensure a healthy recovery, allowing him to begin training as normal again.

The summer signing from Mainz, who continued his fitness work throughout the injury to ensure as short a lay-off as possible, is hopeful of a return to action by the end of September.

Rest of Reds' internationals expected back in next few days

Otherwise, Belgian duo Simon Mignolet and Divock Origi are due back in the coming days. The pair were unused substitutes in their 3-0 win in a World Cup qualifier with Cyprus, Origi having played 67 minutes in their 2-0 friendly defeat to Spain in Brussels a few days earlier.

They will be joined by Estonia captain Ragnar Klavan, who is fully fit again from a minor knee problem. He played the full 90 minutes for his country on Tuesday night but could not prevent them slipping to a 5-0 defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina in their qualifier.

In addition, Georginio Wijnaldum will report back to Melwood in the next few days after playing over an hour in Netherlands' 1-1 qualifying draw with Sweden. The midfielder scored in their friendly defeat to Greece the previous week, lasting 72 minutes.

Philippe Coutinho is the latest international due back, with his return expected on Thursday morning. His Brazil side face Colombia in World Cup qualifying, with Coutinho having already featured for the final half-an-hour in a 3-0 friendly win at Ecuador.

As well as their returning internationals, Liverpool will hope to be able to call upon Emre Can for the visit of Leicester. The midfielder had to withdraw from the Germany squad due to an ankle injury, which he is continuing to have treatment on, meaning he is yet to make his way back out on to the training pitches.

Sakho trains with first-team squad earlier in the week

In other news, Mamadou Sakho was reported to have joined his teammates in training on Monday. Though there was no confirmation as to whether the Frenchman was also present on Tuesday, it is a positive at least that he has been allowed to return at all.

Reports had suggested that the defender's refusal to go out on loan towards the end of the recently-closed summer transfer window would see Klopp ostracize him from the squad.

But it seems that the 26-year-old will be given a fair opportunity to prove his worth to the manager, even though he still faces an uphill battle to force his way back into the starting line-up.

Sakho's last six months have seen him face a worldwide suspension for a failed drugs test, for which he was later cleared, while he was also sent home from the club's pre-season tour of the United States due to concerns over his attitude and professionalism.
