The end of another transfer saga this summer, as VfL Wolfsburg's creative midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, has officially joined Manchester City in excess of £50million pounds on a six-year contract deal. He is the club's record transfer signing, having already broken it earlier on in the summer to sign Raheem Sterling for £49m from Liverpool.

Rumours linking the talented Belgian with a move to the Premier League have been rumbling ever since the end of the 2014/15 campaign, and City supporters have been understandably ecstatic with reports suggesting he'd be open to a move to Eastlands.

de Bruyne's signing a real signal of intent

With 28 assists and 16 goals in all competitions last season, it's no surprise that the former Chelsea man was linked to a whole host of European sides this summer.

He broke the record for the highest assist tally in the Bundesliga, with twenty, and has flourished ever since opting for a switch to Germany from the Blues in January of 2014. His presence within Dieter Hecking's side was integral to the Wolves sealing their place amongst Europe's elite in the UEFA Champions League this term, along with the likes of Bas Dost and Ricardo Rodríguez too.

He previously admitted his future was uncertain

Although it was made public from the start that Wolfsburg were eager to keep their prized asset, the 24-year-old did admit, when quizzed by reporters, that he was unsure where his future did lie, but he wanted to sort out speculation and settle in one destination by the end of the transfer window.

Bayern Munich, Paris-Saint Germain, Juventus and Manchester United were all amongst the clubs rumoured to be interested in de Bruyne's signature, just eighteen months after he was deemed surplus to requirements in José Mourinho's side - which just highlights how talent is often wasted in west London.

Medical completed during Saturday's game

As his new team-mates took on newly-promoted Watford at the Ethiad, de Bruyne was pictured both before and after his medical at the City campus. With Jesús Navas faltering in his 45-minute spell against Quique Sánchez Flores' side, it was clear to see that the Sevilla winger will struggle to assert his first-team credentials given the competition for places, as well as his inconsistent displays reiterating that fact.

Reports in German media earlier this week suggested the deal would be finalised at sometime before the transfer deadline, and although he was training as normal every day with his team-mates, he was omitted from the matchday squad during their 3-0 victory over Schalke 04 on Friday evening - with plenty of speculation hinting that he was allowed to board a flight to Manchester.

"I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season, we can be happy and maybe have some titles. I think this is the most important for the club, the players and for the fans of course."  - Kevin de Bruyne's comments after joining the club
