Talented playmaker Jesse Lingard was one of Manchester United's best players in the win against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday and the youngster has been thriving in recent weeks.
The 22-year-old set up Wayne Rooney's goal with a perfect cushioned pass in the 79th minute, allowing the skipper to head the ball home. It would be Manchester United's only goal in this match and the three points put the team one step closer to reach the Round of 16.
Lingard was pretty active all over the pitch and his impact can't be hidden. The former Derby County player (loan) has looked lively in recent weeks and his play has provided a much needed spark in the final third as his pace and passing ability have given United a much needed boost on the offensive side of the ball and his recent displays have caught the eye of many pundits.
Scholes gives special mention to Lingard
Former Manchester United's legend Paul Scholes is one of the most impressed with Lingard's recent displays. Working as a pundit for BT Sport in the coverage of the game, Scholes said he was impressed with the performance and singled out Lingard as one of the team's best players.
“You need to give them credit, Jesse Lingard deserves a special mention because everything good came through him tonight", he said.
“I don’t think you can underestimate Jesse Lingard’s part in Rooney’s goal. What an unbelievable cushioned pass.”
Manchester United mustn't lose their focus and they will certainly hope this European win can mean big things for the team in the future. After a tough week where they were eliminated from the Capital One Cup and where they were held to a goalless draw against Crystal Palace, United needs to return to their winning ways in the Premier League as they will host West Bromwich Albion on Sunday at Old Trafford.
