Manchester United have asked Borussia Dortmund to cancel Adnan Januzaj's loan deal in Germany due to a lack of playtime.

United fans have been calling for Januzaj to return to Old Trafford with the side lacking creativity in recent months. Louis van Gaal sent the youngster to Dortmund in August 2015, just days after he scored United's only goal against Aston Villa in the Barclay's Premier League.

Januzaj set to return to Manchester United

The Times Sport and Sport-BILD report that United have looked to bring him back to his parent club. The 20-year-old has not started for Thomas Tuchel's Dortmund side in the Bundesliga throughout his six months at the club. He has made seven substitute appearances in the league and cup with BvB.

The Times report that Dortmund have agreed to United's request and Januzaj will return to Manchester imminently. They also say that a formal announcement from both clubs is likely to come tomorrow.

United need new attacking signings with goalscoring an issue since November. Young Anthony Martial has had huge pressure on his shoulders to lead the side while Wayne Rooney's consistency has been incredibly erratic.

Januzaj's return to the club has already been met with positivity from United's fanbase. They have taken to social media to express their delight that a fan favourite could be returning.

Januzaj's miserable Dortmund spell to come to an end

The forward broke into the side under David Moyes in the 2013/14 season. That nine months under Moyes was a very disappointing time for the club, and Januzaj's arrival onto the scene was the only positive. He made 35 appearances that season, scoring four times.

Under van Gaal, he has been far from a first team regular. In the Dutchman's first season, he made 21 appearances but 13 of those were off the bench and was then shipped out to Dortmund on loan after playing four times in the 2015/16 season.

Januzaj made three starts for Dortmund in the UEFA Europa League, a stage upon which he played well. With an average of 2.2 shots per game, he could add much-needed attacking drive to United.
