Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister believes that John Stones would be a good signing for the Red Devils. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is familiar with going after Everton’s Stones after going after him while he was still managing Chelsea, but Everton turned down offers for the Englishman.

Pallister speaks

In an interview, Gary Pallister discussed how impressed he is with John Stones. "He's a young kid but I like what I see of him," Pallister told The Sun. "There's not many better judges than Jose Mourinho.” He added that since Mourinho bid 40 million pounds for him last summer, he knows that he’s an amazing talent. He finished off by saying it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mourinho to spend big on a center back.

After a tough end to the season, Pallister believes that Stones will get back on track. "John has had a tough end to the season and there is a lot of people shooting him down," he said. He followed that by saying that he’s a ball playing center back who earned plaudits until the second half of the season.

Mourinho’s ideal center back pairing?

After Chris Smalling, it is yet to be determined who the Portuguese would like to play at center back alongside Smalling. Despite a great season, Daley Blind does not seem to be in Mourinho’s plans.

Mourinho is going after Eric Bailly, a center back from Villarreal, and reports have come in saying that they will sign him for a fee of around 30-40 million Euros. Stones would add to the center back depth along should Bailly sign on and if United get Stones as well.
