And the player is now left unsure as to why he did not actually join United last year, but instead, the Red Devils went and signed Anthony Martial.
United made an enquiry to Lazio ahead of last season, but the £20 million price tag was deemed too much by the club and they were not willing to match their valuation.
Anderson left wondering about transfer
However, a year on and Anderson still does not know why the move did not work out, but that transfer is unlikely to happen now under Jose Mourinho, and because the forward has a long contract with his club.
“I don’t know why it didn’t work out. But I’m very calm, I have a long contract ahead,” he told Globo Esporte.
The Brazilian international has played 75 times for Lazio since 2013, when he joined from his hometown side Santos, and is set to remain in Rome unless interest come in from other clubs around Europe.
The United manager has his sights set on other players around Europe, and has brought in Eric Bailly as his first signing since taking over from Louis van Gaal.
Forward unlikely to sign this summer
There were reports back in January that United were set to renew their interest in the forward, however, the reports couldn’t have been further from the truth, as no contact was made between the clubs.
It is unlikely that Mourinho will go for Anderson, because he has a transfer list of his own, but the player believes when he gets the right offer, he will leave Lazio.
He said: “I have a good relationship with the club and when I get an offer that is good for me, and especially for the club, I will leave.”
The forward managed only nine goals in his 45 appearances in Serie A last season, as Lazio only managed to finish eighth in the table, failing to qualify for a European competition next season.
