There were five Southampton players whose teams were in international action over the course of Friday, with Virgil Van Dijk, Jordy Clasie and Shane Long all appearing for their respective nations.
Van Dijk and Clasie both started for the Netherlands as they tasted a narrow loss against the impressive French 3-2.
Long also started for his Republic of Ireland as they narrowly won 1-0 against Switzerland last night.
Jose Fonte and Cedric both stayed on the bench as Portugal suffered a shock defeat to Bulgaria in Lisbon.
Van Dijk and Clasie involved in loss
Van Dijk played for the full 90 minutes for the Dutch in a back five something which he has been used to doing at his club and although they leaked three goals he was one of the better players in a largely disappointing night for the Dutch who won’t appear at this summer's Euro's in France.
As for Clasie he was withdrawn at half-time in the place of Manchester United's winger Memphis Depay as the Dutch looked to go for a more attacking approach. Clasie has been struggling of late and it was evident once more as he really found it tough to cope against a top side.
The Dutch next come up against England at Wembley on Tuesday evening where the Southampton pair could meet teammate Fraser Forster.
Long plays friendly
Long played for 86 minutes in his sides friendly win over Switzerland last night in Dublin as they won 1-0.
Long, who has been impressive for the Saints in the past few months earned a further start for the Irish as he looks to stake his claim of starting at the Euro's.
He put in another fine showing for an Irish side who were flooded with Premier League stars as they build-up their Euro preparations.
Long's Ireland will next be in action again on Tuesday when they host Slovakia in Dublin.
Frustration for Fonte and Cedric
It was double frustration for Fonte and Cedric as neither came on for Portugal as they fell to Bulgaria.
The pair will be hoping to appear for their country on Tuesday evening when they host Belgium in Lisbon.
