Two Southampton players, midfielder Victor Wanyama and Cuco Martina, will be in action for their countries today as they look to get minutes under their belts in important qualifiers for various tournaments.
Wanyama will once more captain his Kenyan side as they more come up against Guinea Bissau in a 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier. The two teams played last Wednesday as Guinea came out on top winning by one goal to nil. The match in Guinea Bissau will kick off at 2pm BST .
This match is crucial for Kenya as they know that a defeat will mean that their faint hopes of qualifying for next year’s tournament will be over, if they can pick up a win then it leaves them with a slight chance of progressing as they will need to win their final two group matches in order to leave themselves with a chance of reaching the tournament.
Following the match Wanyama will head back to Southampton and join his team mates in preparing for the tough trip to Leicester to face the league leaders at the King Power next Sunday with kick off at 1:30pm GMT.
Martina will also captain his nation in their match a 2016 Caribbean Cup match against Dominican Republic. The match will kick-off at 12am GMT and is a vital one for Martina and his team mates as another loss in the competition will leave them in a tough position in the race to qualify for the tournament which is staged later this year.
Martina and his side played Barbados just a couple of days ago and will be looking for a response after losing that match narrowly 1-0.
Martina plays a key role for his side and will be vital to his side’s chances of getting anything from tomorrow's match. Like Wanyama falling this match Martina will head back to the club to prepare for next weekend’s trip to Leicester City well before many of their other team mates will.
