Two players out on loan from Southampton, Jason McCarthy and Jordan Turnball, were in action yesterday for their clubs with no wins from their two matches across the Football League.

Both players have been ever-presents for their sides this season and McCarthy in particular has enjoyed a fine season for Wycombe Wanderers in League Two, as his side are on the brink of the play-off places with just seven games to go in the regular season.

As for Turnball, things have been much tougher for him and his Swindon Town side, who currently find themselves in 15th place in League One with little left to play for other than pride.

Turnball's Swindon lose again

Turnball started for Swindon in their league match against play-off hopefuls Scunthorpe Town away from home, but he couldn't stop them from falling to a horrendous 6-0 defeat.

There was hope for Swindon at the half-time stage as they went in at the break only two goals down, but four more after the break consigned them to their worst defeat of the season and one which they will be keen to put to the back of their minds quickly.

Next up for Turnball and Swindon is a visit from Fleetwood Town who currently sit in 20th position, so they will see it as a great opportunity to bounce back with a much-needed win on Saturday afternoon.

Another clean sheet for McCarthy

McCarthy played the full game for Wycombe as they collected a valuable point away to Notts County at the County Ground, and in the process  picked up their 17th clean sheet of the season which is a league high. That result continued a short unbeaten run for the club, who now haven't tasted defeat for five matches in the league.

Up next for Wycombe is a visit from AFC Wimbledon who themselves currently lie 10th in the table, just five points behind Wycombe with a game in hand, outlining just how crucial it could be in both sides' seasons.
