Former Everton and Fulham player Brian McBride has said that his former manager David Moyes can get the best out of Sunderland AFC trialist Steven Pienaar.

New surroundings, familiar faces

Pienaar was released from Goodison Park this summer, having played just 13 games since the arrival of former manager Roberto Martinez.

The South African blossomed under Moyes, who brought him from Borussia Dortmund back in 2008, and is currently on trial with the Black Cats.

Sunderland have yet to make a signing this summer, with little over a week until the league campaign, but McBride believes he could be a success if he secures a contract at the Stadium of Light.

He said: “Yeah I think this one will go through" as he believes "David Moyes knows what type of player Pienaar is."

McBride concluded: “He’s a tricky and different player to put into a team if you don’t know how to use him" but believes "David Moyes does and I think he’ll be good there.”

Out on loan

The exit door on Wearside has certainly been busy, and added that list on Friday with Will Buckley moving to Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfielder has moved to Hillsborough on a season-long loan, and will be available for the Owls' opening day clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

He told swfc.co.uk: “The club, the manager and what the team achieved last season, it’s the kind of thing you want to be part of" and admitted “as a player, you want to be part of a club that is pushing forward and Sheffield Wednesday certainly fits the bill."

Buckley concluded: “Because it’s a season-long loan, it will help in the settling process and I can take it that this is my club now.”

Sunderland AFC will take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, August 5 with kick-off at 5:30pm BST.
