Sunderland AFC goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, has said that the Black Cats will come out of their current slump in form, as they look for their first league win of the season, when they take on West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

Looking to turn it around

It has been another miserable start to the campaign at the Stadium of Light, and they will head into October without a league win for the fourth consecutive season.  Their poor run of form continued last Saturday, despite Jermain Defoe putting Sunderland two goals ahead, when goals from Joe Ledley, James McArthur and Christian Betenke saw them slump to a 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Pickford said everyone has been disappointed since the weekend" and claimed it was "a kick in the teeth" losing in such a way. The youngster admitted the team  "need to focus on Saturday" and then "the results will come.”

The 22-year-old has been thrown into the first-team after the injury to Vito Mannone earlier this season. Pickford went on to say the team have "good team spirit"  but admitted the lads must keep  to keep plugging away at it"

Putting it right

Three points against Tony Pulis' side seem essential, going into the international break, and Pickford claimed that the Wearsiders will come out of their poor run of form.

Pickford believes Sunderland "have got a chance to put it right on Saturday" and firmly stated “It will be massive to get three points" before the international break "to give us some momentum"

Pickford concluded: “It is a massive game for us" on Saturday.

Sunderland AFC will take on West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of light on Saturday, October 1 with kick-off at 3pm BST.
