Yeovil Town have confirmed that Connor Roberts will be remaining with them for the remainder of the season, extending his initial loan spell from Swansea City.

A chance to earn a new deal

The young defender has been highly impressive and important to the League Two strugglers, who currently sit second bottom of the division. Roberts, who joined just before their first game of the season against Exeter City, has played in every game. 32 appearances in six months has done him the world of good, and he has also added three assists to boot.

The game time has been vital for his development, and could be the make or break factor when it comes to whether or not he is offered a new contract at the end of the season. The 20-year-old's deal runs out in June, so helping Yeovil get out of the tough spot would be a massive boost to his chances. While he has been used almost exclusively as a right-back, Roberts can also play at right-midfield - another string to his bow.

Way is a big admirer

The Glovers' boss, Darren Way, spoke to the club website about the news: “Connor has been a great addition to this football club. Little did he know that he would play as many games as he has, but he has definitely earned his place in the team." He added that, "I think all the supporters can see that he gives his all for the club in every game he plays."

Roberts is "following in the footsteps" of Liam Shepard, who was on loan there last season, according to Way. He claimed it was a "great education" to be at Yeovil, and that his loanee will go on to have "a very successful career".
