Young West Ham United defender, Reece Burke has said that he wants to show what he can do ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Making his mark

The 19-year-old received many plaudits last season after spending it on loan at Sky Bet League One side, Bradford City.

Burke has returned to the Hammers and took part in their opening training session ahead of their pre-season trip to the USA.

The youngster will be on the plane to take on the Seattle Sounders and the Carolina RailHawks, and before of the trip, Burke shared his desire to impress Slaven Bilic.

Burke told whufc.com that he "can't wait for the tour" and that it will good to "get back with the first team" as he's "been away for quite a long time now".

He continued, saying that "last season was one of [his] biggest so far" and that it was good "going away and getting a load of games" under his belt. Now, he added, the "next step now is coming back in" and showing what he can do.

Burke added that he "managed to play a few games" in the Europa League last season and "that was a great experience as well". He believes "it's a good time for the gaffer" to have a look at him and "all the other young players too".

Already impressing

Burke's time in Yorkshire did wonders for him, making 33 appearances and keeping 16 clean sheets in those matches.

That earned him several gongs at the end of season awards, including Player of the Year. Back in April, Bilic said that he was impressed by the defender.

The Croat told the Evening Standard, "I like Reece". Bilic mentioned that Burke has "already played some friendlies and in Europe" and is "very clever player". Though he was keen to say that the youngster "will stay with [West Ham]" but only if "he has a good chance to play".

West Ham United will take on Seattle Sounders on CenturyLink Field on Wednesday, July 6 with kick-off at 3:30am BST.
