The Scottish under-21 national squad could have all but sealed a qualifying spot for Euro 2013 had it not been for a late injury time goal which earned the Bulgarian under 21s a draw in their homeland.

The Bulgarians started off the brightest from kick off as a Bulgarian strike was blocked off at the near post by Scotland goalkeeper Mark Ridgers.

Another Bulgarian offensive saw another shot at the Scottish goal however this strike struck the post in the seventh minute of the game.

However Scottish hopes of getting a grip onto the game fell in the thirteenth minute when Dundee United striker Johnny Russel had a shot inside the Bulgarian penalty area which was saved by Kunchev.

The hopes of a Scottish goal came even closer as Johnny Russel dribbled past Kunchev, however a poor effort towards goal was denied as it was cleared off the line.

Bulgaria were to to taste glory first in the match as Georgi Milanov put his side one goal up with a fantastic goal from the edge of the Scottish penalty box inside the thirty-fourth minute.

As the second half began Scotland were back on the front foot trying to chase the all important equalizer to get back in the game. Mackay-Steven won Scotland a costless kick from distance which hit the Bulgarian wall however Kilmarnock's Liam Kelly hit the rebound which stung the hands of Kunchev but managed to hold on to the shot and keep the Bulgarians ahead.

Scotland's hopes of a goal were rewarded by none other than Huddersfield Town hitman Jordan Rhodes who headed a cross into the Bulgarian goal. Rhodes now had extended his goal tally to seven goals in eight matches for the under-21 side.

There was no sign of backlash from the Bulgarian side and were restricted to poor shots from distance as goalscorer Milanov's shot went wide of the target.

Aberdeen youngster Ryan Jack came off with an injury ten minutes before the end and was replaced with Kilmarnock's on-loan Celtic defender Lewis Toshney.

Two minutes before the end of time saw Scotland take the lead over the Bulgarians when another fine goal by Jordan Rhodes see the Scots go 2-1 ahead making his overall goal tally for the season to 47 goals in all competitions an amazing feat for any player in football.

However Scots hopes of a win were dashed one minute before the end of injury time when Georgi Kostadinov scored to level the scoring between the two sides and restricting Scotland to one point.

Scotland can still qualify for the Euro 2013 tournament with two qualifiers still to play in September.
