Current Celta Vigo manager Luis Enrique has recently become the favourite to take the reigns at Barcelona next season. The appointment would see Enrique succeed Tata Martino, who's side has fallen short of their expectations. Martino's side and tactics deployed hasn't been short of critics, leading to suggestions that the board are considering their options for next season.

Enrique was joined on the board's shortlist with current Athletic Bilbao manager, Ernesto Valverde. However, Valverde is believed to has made it clear that he wishes to honour his contract at Los Leones. The reported rejection of Barcelona's approach narrows their sights once again, with Luis Enrique believed to be their main target to take the hotseat as of next season. The Blaugrana board are seemingly looking to stick to the tradition of the club by appointing a manager who understands the Barça philosophy.

Luis Enrique was also tipped to become Barcelona manager last season, after the late Tito Vilanova stepped down from his post, until the board opted with Tata Martino. The initial appointment drew immediate criticism, as the Argentine boss had never managed outside of South America. Many were sceptical over his appointment. After a good start with his managerial career, the season has slowly spiralled out of Martino's control. Barcelona exited the Champions League in the quater-finals, lost the Copa Del Ray final to Real Madrid and are seemingly out of the title race - leading to claims the board are soon to axe Martino. The Argentine has also been heavily criticised by Catalan media and the club's supporters for changing their style rather ineffectively.

Enrique's Celta Vigo currently sit in 13th place with three games to go and too has announced his commitment to Celta, wishing to see his contract out. But if Barcelona come calling for his services, is he in a position to reject? The ability to rebuild Barcelona and take one of the biggest jobs in football doesn't come around often, meaning Enrique could easily be persuaded. It is also rumoured that Celta Vigo would claim €3 million as a compensation fee for Enrique's services; a fee that Barcelona can match. It'll certainly be an interesting few months to see how this story develops.
