That was by no means England's best performance, but on the night it was good enough to easily get past a weak Peru side. A highlight was Daniel Sturridge's classy finish for the opening goal, which goes to show that the Liverpool forward is still inform following a highly successful season at Anfield. It was nice to see the likes of Stones, Barkley and Sterling come on, in a game in which it was clear Hodgson was using to gauge who he will be using at the World Cup. You can only beat what is put in front of you, and that it what England did tonight thanks to goals from Sturridge, Cahill and Jagielka. That's it for VAVEL's coverage of England v Peru. Please join us again, as we will be covering all the action from Brazil live this summer.

90'. The fourth official has indicated 4 minutes of added time.

89'. Henderson plays a great cross-field ball to John Stones, who slips the ball inside to Wilshere. The young Arsenal man pulled off a great turn to get past Yotun but the move came to nothing.

85'. Daniel Welbeck tackles Peru defender Rodriguez and slips the ball into the path of Ross Barkley. The Everton man then passes to Sterling, who floats his shot harmlessly wide, in what was a decent chance from inside the opposition box.

81'. Ross Barkley comes on for Daniel Sturridge, who scored a sensational goal to give England the lead. Roy Hodgson has given many young players a chance in this game, as he looks to see who will be capable of making the cut in Rio.

79'. All of England's substitutions have killed the tempo - it's clear a friendly is being played out there.

75'. Yet another change gives young Everton defender John Stones his England debut. Leighton Baines comes off.

72'. Fernandez may feel he was fouled there by Cahill, who was doing his best to put off the goalkeeper, but the referee was having none of it. Chris Smalling and James Milner have been introduced by Hodgson, at the expense of Jagielka, who had only just stopped celebrating, and Adam Lallana.

69'. GOAL FOR ENGLAND! Phil Jagielka with the goal, after Peru 'keeper Fernandez dropped the ball from Leighton Baines' corner. The ball landed at the feet of the England defender, who was left with the simplest of finishes, as he virtually passed the ball into the back of the net.

65'. Substitutions all round as Wilshere replaces Gerrard and Raheem Sterling comes on for Wayne Rooney.

64'. GOAL FOR ENGLAND! Baines swings in a corner, which is met by the Chelsea centre-half, who powers the ball past Fernandez and into the Peru goal.

62'. Glen Johnson is caught in possession by Cruzado. The Peru forward slips in Deza, who is tackled well by Jagielka before can get his shot away.

59'. First change for Peru sees Paolo Hurtado replace Corthians forward Ramirez.

56'. Some concerns for England and Roy Hodgson as the occasional sloppy mistake by the England back four and midfield continues to hand Peru chances at goal. They can count themelves lucky they aren't against a more prolific strikeforce.

53'. Deza has an audacious shot from 45 yards-out. The ball was hit well, and nearly caught 'keeper Joe Hart off guard, but the England shotstopper was able to look the ball dip just over the bar and onto the roof of the net.

51'. The English midfielders are beginning to link up well. Lallana and has Gerrard are instrumental in this, as they keep supplying Rooney and Sturridge. But nothing has come of it as yet.

50'. Rooney whips in a cross, which is partially cleared. The ball falls to birthday boy Steven Gerrard, but his powerfully struck volley is blocked on the edge of the box.

47'. Jagielka takes a poor touch and his pass is deflected off a Peru forward. Joe Hart is forced to come out to collect, clearing up the potential danger.

45'. We're back underway at Wembley.

The players are back out onto the pitch, with no changes to either side. The second half is just moments away.

45'. Half-time at Wembley. The score is England 1-0 Peru, with Sturridge's brilliant goal the difference between the sides.

44'. Great chance for Peru sees Ramirez's shot from a one-on-one saved by the approaching Joe Hart. Glen Johnson was way out of position, leaving acres for the Peru midfielder to charge through, but his effort was well saved.

40'. Another foul on  Sturridge, this time by Ramos.  Baines whips in the costless-kick from 35 yards-out and finds the head of Welbeck. But all the Manchester United striker can do is glance his header way over the bar.

37'. The goalscorer Sturridge is brought down in the channel.  Gerrard loops in the costless-kick but his ball floats harmlessly over the goal.

36'. That delightful goal from Sturridge has lifted the atmosphere around Wembley. England enjoying possession on the half-way line.

32'. GOAL FOR ENGLAND. Daniel Sturridge with a sublime curling effort from the edge of the box. Glen Johnson took the the throw-in from close to the byline and found the feet of Sturridge. The English forward dribbled the ball across the edge of the box, before placing his shot into the top corner.

25' Cruzado booked after a very later and nasty tackle on Gerrard

22' After some long sustained possession by England, with many back passes. A chipped ball towards Sturridge finds him but he is unable to control the ball to take a shot.

18' Joe Hart pulls off a stunning save after a shot from no where is deflected by Cahill. The deflection wrong foots Hart who was off his line, but he was able to recover and save the shot

16' Ramirez with a subtle through ball which disected the centre backs. But Joe Hart rushed off his line to collect the ball before the oncoming striker could reach it.

15' Cautious start so far by both sides, with neither pressing forwards with much intensity

9':   Welbeck recieves a pass at pace, in yards of space. He runs directly at the Peru full-back, who brings him down cynically. The costless-kick is cleared by the first man

From the Daily Mail on why Peru was picked to be tonight oppenents. "The reason being that the South American's are expected to play in similar style to the Three Lions Group D oppenents Uraguay"

A key component for England today, is the centre of midfield. With England expected to line up in a 4-3-3 formation, it is essestial the midfielders help retain possession if England are to have success in this fixture.

Here are some clips of recent England games:

BBC Sport have quoted Peru boss Pablo Bengoechea as saying "We are very aware of all England's young players." He went on to say "In South America there is coverage of the Premier League during the week and certainly every weekend so we are very much aware of those players"

Today we will several England players starting, who are fighting for their World Cup starting places. Peru on  the other hand did not make the World Cup

England will be without young starlet Luke Shaw, who is out with an illness.

England have only scored twice in the last three friendlies at Wembley. However the last time they lost a friendly, before a major tournament was May 1990, against Uraguay

England have faced today's oppenents twice before. May 1959 was the first match between the two sides and England were beaten 4-1 by the South Americans. In the next fixture, May 1962, England revenged that defeat with a 4-0 victory. Both the games were held in Peru.

England played Peru's fellow South American's Chile, last year at Wembley. The match finished 2-0 to the visiting side.

The last international Peru played was a World Cup qualifier, that ended 1-1 against Bolivia.

The match this evening which kicks off at 20:00, will be held at Wembley, England's national stadium. The last match England played at home ended 1-0 to the hosts, after Sturridge scored a 82' minute winner against Denmark.
