Greece started the day bottom of Group C but a win could’ve sent them through to the Knockout stages for the first time in their history.

Ivory Coast started the day second, ahead by three points and a win could’ve cemented their place into the World Cup knockout stages putting to bed their Group Stage hoodoo.

Ivory Coast started off the better of the two teams having four dangerous attacks and 54% of the possession. Les Éléphants were looking to cement their place in the knockouts with a win here.

In the opening fifth teen minutes Greece had a chance to make the break through the ball was played wide to Torosidis who fired a low fizzing cross towards Salpingidis. Barry bravely dived at the feet of the oncoming forward and claimed the ball well.

There was a brief break in play while Greece keeper Karnezis received treatment on his back.

After the first twenty minutes, there wasn’t a single shot on target from either side but Ivory Coast had the more dangerous attacks out of the two sides.

Yaya Toure burst through the middle of the pitch with power riding three tackles and when approached the box he tried to slip in Drogba but the pass had too much power and the Ivory Coast play broke down.

Greece broke through the midfield, Sameras passed to Holebas his shot crashed against the ball, the ball evades Samaras but Greece won a costless kick on the edge of the box. Karagounis struck the ball hard and low but the shot was straight at Barry.

Tiote lost the ball just outside his own box, Samaris pounced on the mistake, played a one two with Samaras and finished off brilliantly to make it 1-0 to the Greeks. Toure received the ball on the far side, took on one, jinxed past another but when it came to his shot it got blocked and the substitute keeper caught the bouncing ball.

Just a minute after half time Lazaros shot deflected just wide for a corner.

Gervinho layed off Tiote and his curling left footed shot was held by Glykos.

Lazaros cuts inside onto his left foot leaving Bamba for dead, his shot agonizingly close. Greek forward Salpingidis forced Barry to push his powerful strike over the bar. Karagounis got the ball out of his feet 35 yards from goal and gets a vicious shot away. It swerved in the air, Barry beaten but denied by the woodwork.

Kalou danced past the challenge of Salpingidis and Torosidis he bended his shot towards goal. It didn’t quite have enough whip on it, and it went narrowly wide of Glykos's left-hand post.

Lazaros smashed his dipping and swerving costless kick towards goal, but it just clipped the top of the net passing over the crossbar.

Ivory Coast equalised on 74 minutes, Gervinho rolled the ball into Bony’s path who slotted a simple finish past Glykos.

Pushing for the goal to send them through to the World Cup knockout stage, Torosidis whipped in a fizzing cross, which was slightly over hit and caught Barry off guard. It strikes the woodwork before going behind for a goal kick. Lazaros exquisitely brought the ball down with his chest and took a touch out of his feet before slamming a shot towards goal but the end result wasn’t the one he’d of hoped for. Salpingidis found space on the right deep inside the Ivorian penalty area. He fizzed the ball across goal and the ball goes through a sea of legs, but nobody got a touch on it and it trickled away to safety for Côte d'Ivoire.

A quick Ivorian break down the left-hand side, Sio delayed his pass and eventually found Yaya Toure, who took a heavy first touch. He then got his shot away eventually but it's late.

The ball is cut back by Lazaros and Samaras went down in the Ivorian area, the referee awarded a penalty, Samaras side foots the ball to the diving Barry's left-hand side. The keeper guessed the right way, but he couldn’t keep it out.

For Greece it’s their first World Cup knockout in their history, they'll be playing Costa Rica in the knockout stages.

Heartbreak for Ivory Coast they’re out the World Cup in the group stage for the third time in a row.
