18-year old Ryan Gauld has signed for Sporting Lisbon on a bumper 6 year contract for a fee in the region of £3 million. Gauld will have a €60 million buyout clause.

The highly-rated youngster only signed a new long term deal with Scottish Premiership side Dundee United in December but the club insist the big money offer was far too hard to turn down.

This past Monday, Gauld returned for scheduled pre-season training with his United teammates but now must prepare himself ahead of his new career.

The club released the following statement on their official website;

"Dundee United confirm the transfer of Ryan Gauld to Sporting Lisbon, for an undisclosed fee, which was completed last night."

The club continued, "Everyone at this club wishes Ryan sincere best wishes in his future career."

Gauld joins a Lisbon side who finished second to champions Benfica and a side who is well known for producing arguably the worlds best player Cristiano Ronaldo amongst others.

Gauld has been widely hailed as "the future of Scottish football" by fans across the country and the move can only mean good things for the future of the Scottish game.
