Colombian's young superstar and current Monaco man, James Rodriguez, is believed to have rejected an offer from Real Madrid. Mundo Deportivo have today reported that Rodriguez currently prefers to stay in the South East on France rather than make the switch to the Spanish capital this summer.

The inevitable links with a club of Real Madrid's stature for James Rodriguez started a few weeks ago, in the earlier stages of the tournament. After finding the back of the next five times in six appearances in Brazil, Rodriguez has properly announced himself on the big stage and staked his claim as player of the tournament. Despite making a €45 million move from Porto to Monaco, it appears Rodriguez has decided he is not ready to move again.

Even if Rodriguez was to make the switch to the Spanish giants, it is believed that Monaco would be holding out for a fee in the region of €80m. However, there could also be a few further complications to any deal that could potentially be struck between the two clubs: Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested in former Atletico forward, Falcao, which would see a potential deal for the pair cost them an astronomical fee. Then again, Real Madrid may be able to decrease the cost if Monaco's rumoured interest in a few of their players is genuine, as a few players could be used as makeweights in any transfer. Players such as Sami Khedira or Karim Benzema could possibly be included in the deal if it was to materialise.

Real Madrid may not get their man this summer, but that doesn't mean they won't sign him in another one. The Spanish giants seem to be held in high regards with Rodriguez. In a recent interview with FourFourTwo, Rodriguez was quoted;

“I would love to play in Spain. It would be a dream to play there, it is the best league in the world. I prefer Real Madrid to Barcelona.”

A move for Rodriguez currently seems dead in the water; although it leaves the futures of himself and Angel di Maria hanging in the balance. Real Madrid where considering selling their stand-out Argentine to fund a move for the Colombian. With that option seemingly not applicable to Los Blancos it leaves the future of di Maria hanging on the balance - with rumours only going to intensify throughout the course of the transfer window.
