Full Time: Switzerland 0-2 England

90+4' England break again, Lambert feeds Welbeck, who calmly slots beyond Sommer for his, and England's,  second goal of the night.

90+4' GOALLLLLL!!!!!!! Switzerland 0-2 England

90+4' Rodriguez takes on the shot from 20 yards but it takes a deflection off Stones straight into Hart's hands.

90+2' Sterling looks to try and curl one into the corner as England try and break out of defence however his effort is just above the top-left corner he was aiming for.

90' Five minutes added time for England to see out this game.

89' England sub: Rooney (off) Lambert (on)

78 ' England sub: Jones (off) Jagielka (on)

75' Switzerland sub: Xhaka (off) Dzemali (on)

73' England sub: Wiltshire (off)  Milner (on)

70' Terrific chance for Switzerland. Drmic is played through, the flag stays down and Drmic goes round Joe Hart and looks to finish but Cahill gets back excellently to make a superb goal line Clearence.

69' An extremely audacious effort from Seferovic as he takes a touch and tries to volley past Hart from 30 yards and a difficult angle. He had better options on there!

64' Switzeland sub: Mehmedu (on) Drmic (on)

58' Perfect England counter attack, Sterling provides a lovely ball across the area from the left-hand side and Danny Welbeck taps in at te back post from just a coupe of yards out.

58' Goal!!!!!! Switzerland 0-1 England

56' Seferovic connects well with a volley and he forces a wonderful one handed save from Joe Hart. That seemed to get the crowd going!

53' Good move from England, Henderosn looks to pick out Sterling who fluffs the shot however the ball almost sneaks in off Behrami who puts it out for a corner.

48' Rodriguez picks out Lichsteiner in the penalty area but the full back can't keep his effort down and the ball goes comfortably over the bar.

47' Wlitshire looks to find the bottom corner with a finessed effort which takes a takes a slight nick off the Swiss defender out for a corner.

46' Second half underway!

20.32. A decent first half here in Basel and England's performance and the match itself certainly improved as the half went on.it will be interesting to see how the second half  pans out.

Half Time: Switzerlnad 0-0 England

43' A very good turn from Rooney Behrami and his effort bounces just before Sommer who fumbles it out for a corner. From this resulting corner, Phil Jones has a superb downward header that was heading in until Sommer got down well to save, atoning for his unconvincing stop that resulted in the corner.

34' Switzerland's best chance so far as Shaquri plays in the on-side Seferovic after England carelessly lose possession. Joe Hart comes out and makes himself big to make a smart close range save.

32' A Switzerland corner is headed out by Welbeck to towards Lichsteiner on the edge of the penalty area who makes a sweet connection on the volley however the ball sails over the bar.

28' Danny Welbeck does superbly well to intercept the ball heading to Von Bergen and makes a fine sprint down the touch line. He has both Rooney and Sterling in the penalty area however he fails to find either of them and a splendid chance for England goes begging.

26' Leighton Baines fizzes in a fine ball into the Swiss penalty area but Rooney struggles to sort his positioning out and he heads wide.

15' best chance of the game so far for England. A poor Clearence from Von Bergen gifts possetion back to England but Sterling's ball to Rooney is a poor one and he can only force a weak side footed effort straight at Sommer.

9' Yellow card: Fabian Delph (England)

5' a quiet opening 5 minutes or so. The home side side have enjoyed the majority ofpossession   nothing has come off it. A simple Shaquri cross is comfortably caught by Hart in the closest goal mouth action.

1' We're underway in Basel!

19.52 The teams are out and the national anthems are blaring out around the St Jakob Park. We're almost ready to go.

18:45. Elsewhere tonight in the group, Slovenia host Estonia whilst Lithuania travel to the minnows of San Marino.

18:43. Hodgson of course had a succesful spell in charge of Switzerland during the 1990's. Hodgson is still a papillae figure in Switzerland and it certainly seems that he would be more than content with a share of the spoils this evening in what looks a relatively straight forward group for both teams.

18:41. With regards to his F-Word rant at reporters, the Englad manger has been quick to dismiss the outburst. Hodgson insists he was just "defending his players from unnessarary critism." He asking claims that he "swears all the time at home and the fact that he used a profanity in the press conference should not be a particularly big deal in today's society.

18:38. Roy Hodgson has come under fire revelry with the abject England performances of late. Hodgson claims he has "never seeked  popularity".

18:37. Speaking ahead of tonight's game, Switzerland star man Xherdan Shaqri said:

18:32. "None of us need to be to be told that starting off with a win tonight would be great. It may be the toughest match of the group but we are playing to win."

18:27. Switzerland have enjoyed a huge resurgence in form in recent years. The team that faced England here four years ago is largely unchanged, but has since grown into a force to be reckoned with on the international stage. A FIFA World ranking of 9th and a highly respectful World Cup showing, reaching the last 16, certainly reflects this.

18:23. England's 1-0 friendly  win on Wednesday against an average Norway side certainly hasn't inspired the confidence of the England faithful after a dismal showing in Brazil.

18:16. Ranked 20th in the world currently, many see England going into this game as underdogs as an accurate representation on how things might go tonight.

18:12. Tonight's match takes place at the St Jakob Park. St Jakob park is located in the Norhern Swiss city of Basel which is in close proximity to the French and German borders.

18:07. The stadium hits the current Swiss champions, FC Basel and has a capacity of 38,512. The stadium was also used during Euro 2008, which Switzerland co-hosted with Austria.

18:00. Hello everyone and welcome to Vavel's live coverage of Switzland v England with both teams beginning their campaign to France 2016 here in Basel.
