Austria Wien have signed Raphael Holzhauser from VfB Stuttgart, the club confirmed.

Holzhauser had been having a rough time of late with Stuttgart, having to train with the 3.Liga team after Huub Stevens saw no use for him.

Before the season of struggle, he'd managed 23 appearances for the Swabians and a further 13 on loan at FC Augsburg.

His deal with the capital club is a sizeable one; the three-and-a-half year deal will take him through until 2018.

At 22, there is still plenty of time for Holzhauser to turn around the disappointments of the last few seasons. He'd learnt his trade with city rivals Rapid, before moving on to Stuttgart in 2009.

"Austria are a great club and I am highly motivated," said Holzhauser. He could make his debut against second-placed RZ Pellets WAC on February 14th.

This is Austria Wien's third signing of the January transfer window, having already acquired Philipp Zulechner and Ronivaldo.
