On Wednesday, FC Augsburg announced the mutual termination of Marcel de Jong's contract at the club.

The Canadian left-back will now leave the Bundesliga's fourth-placed side, having managed just fifty-six minutes this season.

De Jong joined Augsburg from Roda JC Kerkrade back in 2010, going on to make sixty-eight appearances since then.

"We wish Marcel de Jong all the best for his future," said sporting director Stefan Reuter.

The 28-year-old was understanding of the situation, "it was the best thing for both sides."

"The topic of Augsburg is finished for me now," he continued. "I had four and a half wonderful years there, even if the end was a little weird."

1860 Munich, who added Anthony Annan to their squad recently, are said to have shown an interest in acquiring the now free agent.

Although no concrete offers have been made, it is expected that clubs from North America and Europe, specifically Germany, will make a deal with hi,.
