Holger Badstuber has returned to full training and will be fit for FC Bayern München's upcoming game versus Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, in the DFB Pokal, the club could confirm on Monday morning.

The 26-year-old central defender was taken off at half-time in his first international appearance for Germany in two and a half years, during a 2-2 friendly draw against Australia at the end of March.

As a result he was omitted from die Nationalmannschaft's squad to face Georgia in the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifiers, but Thomas Schneider, former VfB Stuttgart coach and assistant to Joachim Löw, said it was merely a precautionary measure.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge labelled the centre-half his "personal hero" upon his (Badstuber's) return from injury that saw him miss footballing action for 624 days. A series of knee ligament problems meant he was able to return this season, although he was hit with a thigh injury that set him back further.

However he has now returned and looks set to bolster Bayern's defence, in their big to secure a possible treble.
