Gervinho, Seydou Doumbia, Victor Ibarbo, Antonio Sanabria and Adem Ljajic and have all been denied access into Indonesia for Roma's pre-season friendly, the club confirmed. Why the players were denied access remains unknown as the Indonesian immigration authorities are yet to comment on the matter.

All five players were sent home immediately from Indonesia, where Roma are visiting for the first time in their history.

Roma are to field two sides made up entirely of their own later today having touched down in Jakarta on Friday night in front of a bumper crowd.

Arrive off the back of International Champions cup exit

The Giallorossi travelled to Indonesia directly from Australia having competed in the International champions cup for the second year running.

Roma were victorious over Real Madrid with thanks to a penalty shootout before being knocked out by Premier League opposition in Manchester City in the same way.

"Very frustrating"

Speaking to the club's official website, Chief Executive Italo Zanzi admitted it was "very frustrating" that the five players were unable to enter the country.

"It's a real disappointment for us, given that we've made a substantial effort to be here" he continued.

"It's not a positive thing for the players, for the club - who did everything that we were asked to do - but, most importantly, for the Indonesian fans because they are why we are here."

Doumbia no longer wanted

Having struggled to adapt to life in Italy, Roma are said to be looking to get rid of the Ivorian who joined on a five-year deal this past January from Russian club CSKA Moscow.

Doumbia is also reportedly happy to depart the Stadio Olimpico given his torrid time in the capital but would prefer a permanent transfer like the club.

CSKA have admitted that they are in negotiations with Roma over bringing the 27-year-old back but they only want a loan move due to Roma's high valuation of the player. Doumbia has also rejected approaches from Turkey and China.
