Just as things could not get worse for the defending champions Serie A, one of their top players takes a knock in training.

Juventus' Alvaro Morata is set to miss at least one month due to an injury sustained in Tuesday night’s training session. The attacker will be out of the lineup for this weekend’s Supercoppa Italiana clash and most importantly will miss at least one week of the beginning of the Serie A season.

According to Football Italia, the injury took place in training when Morata pulled up and began to complain of pain in his thigh.

The Bianconeri released a statement about Morata’s injury on the teams website Wednesday:

“Alvaro Morata will be sidelined for up to 30 days after suffering a torn soleus muscle in his left calf during yesterday evening's training session,”

Bad Timing

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for the defending Scudetto winners. The team is gearing up for their Supercoppa Italiana matchup this Saturday against Lazio in Shanghai, not to mention the team is going through their preseason preparations as they prepare for the beginning of their Serie A season.

Juventus open their Serie A campaign on August 23 against Udinese. The Old Lady hopes the attacker will be ready to go the following week when they take on Roma, although at the moment it seems unlikely.

The Bianconeri was leaning on Morata to begin this season much the same way he ended last season. The 22-year-old transferred to Italy from Real Madrid last season for €20 million. He wasn’t inserted into the lineup right away, instead earning his spot.

The Spanish international played a big part in Juventus’ Champions League run. He really hit his stride in the competition, scoring timely goals, for example against his former club Real Madrid and also the equalizer in the final against Barcelona.

This next month can’t go by any faster for the Bianconeri as they hope Morata is ready to go sooner than what they believe at the moment. They could only hope he is able to hit his form sooner rather than later when he is healthy enough to return.
