It was announced on Friday that Schalke had snapped up FC Bayern Munich youngster Pierre-Emile Højbjerg,

The Danish international, who made his debut for his country in 2014 after playing for his country since the U16s, was on loan at FC Augsburg last season. Højbjerg played a key role in Augsburg’s rise to the Europa League. He joined in January and played 16 times, contributing with two goals and three assists.

He has made 44 appearances for the Bavarians since signing in 2012 as an U17 from Danish side Brondby.

Heldt has his say

The transfer comes a shock to many including the German media. Bayer Leverkusen looked destined to grab the signature of the in-demand loanee. In beating Leverkusen to the signature, Heldt also edged past rival Sporting Director Rudi Völler.

Heldt admitted he is a fan of the Danish man and is happy that he has a versatile player in the Schalke ranks, “Pierre-Emile can play in several positions in midfield and so makes us a lot more flexible”.

The 20-year-old came to the VELTINS-Arena looking for first team football and with the departure of Julian Draxler confirmed, it looks likely that he will get the regular playing time which he and his parent club Bayern Munich crave.

A promising career ahead

Before making his debut in 2013 for Jupp Heynckes, he had to play for ‘Little Bayern’, which is where his name got out which got him the promotion to the first that he deserved. His debut came in April of 2013 as die Bayern demolished then Bundesliga regulars 1. FC Nürnberg 4-0.

Since making his debut for the national squad, he has became a key part of their team and will be apart of their squad as they fight to confirm their place in the European Championships as they take on Albania before playing Armenia as they look to close the two-point gap over Portugal in Group I.
