Bundesliga newboys SV Darmstadt 98 have signed unattached goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska.
The Polish stopper was most recently under contract at Scottish Champions Celtic but the 33-year-old has been without a club since July.
Zaluska spent eleven years in Scotland before being released by Celtic. Prior to his spell with the Bhoys, he enjoyed a two year stint at Dundee United. The goalkeeper is excited at the prospect of playing in a different country, saying: “I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead”.
The Wysokie Mazowieckie born shot-stopper spent six years of his professional career in his home nation at four different clubs before his venture out to the United Kingdom.
Wache happy with his arrival
The Lilies announced the signing earlier today and, upon arrival, goalkeeping coach Dino Wache believes the signing of the free agent is good for Darmstadt as he is an “extremely experienced keeper”. He went on to speak of his delight at the new man: “We are glad that he has joined and that he completes our goalkeeping trio."
Zaluska has only made the one appearance for Poland, way back in 2009 following Artur Boruc’s suspension. In the six years at the Hoops, he only managed 28 Scottish Premier League appearances but won four league titles in the process.
The 6 ft 3 goalkeeper will act as Darmstadt’s third choice 'keeper behind Christian Mathenia and Patrick Platins. Zaluska signed a one-year contract following Darmstadt's return to the Bundesliga after their long absence from the German top-flight.
Darmstadt remain undefeated in their return but, with that, they also are winless. In their opening three games they have picked up three draws. In two out of the three matches they have held the lead againstst Hannover 96, where they were ahead twice, and Schalke, who they led after just nine minutes. Darmstadt are currently 12th going into the international break.
