Midfielder Andrea Bertolacci suffered a thigh injury this past week while on international duty with Italy. The injury reportedly occurred in the 1-0 win over Malta, which saw Bertolacci start and play 55 minutes.

An official statement regarding the injury was announced on the clubs website which stated, AC Milan announces Andrea Bertolacci underwent medical tests earlier today for a thigh injury which revealed a minor tear in the abductor muscle area.

The club has also confirmed that the young midfielder will undergo more tests next week.

The Move

AC Milan were able to pry Bertolacci from Serie A counterparts AS Roma during this summer’s transfer window; a move which cost the club a reported €20 million.

Bertolacci turned heads after successful campaigns in Serie A with Genoa from 2012-2015. He made 88 appearances scoring 12 goals for Genoa in that time.

The injury comes just before Sundays match which is the clubs first derby of the season against rivals Inter Milan.

The 24-year old will have a tough task at living up to his price tag. He is already a big part of the clubs midfield and especially the teams attack. This injury no doubt hurts the club as they hope for a speedy recovery.

Climbing back

Bertolacci was one of the many transfer window moves the Rossoneri made this summer in an effort to re-establish themselves as a top Italian club.

The Italian side has struggled to stay atop of Serie A since the club went into financial struggles, forcing them to sell their top players.

Since the club went into a downward spiral, it has seen many coaches come and go which certainly hasn’t helped the situation.

The latest transfer window saw the club spend top dollar for young talent which looks to have rejuvenated hope in the club but no doubt still have a long way to go.
