Fiorentina attacker Giuseppe Rossi is reportedly close to signing a new contract with the Viola.

Rossi, who has spent a lot of his time on the sidelines due to injuries the past few seasons, has reportedly earned a new deal which would keep him at Fiorentina for at least another season.

According to il Corriere Fiorentino, the 28-year-old is close to an agreement which would pay him €1.7 million a season, a decrease from the €2.4 million he was previously making.

Injuries

Rossi has struggled to stay healthy over the past few seasons due to knee injuries, even missing the entire 2014-15 season to recover from a reoccurring problem.

The American-born attacker has had knee problems throughout his career, but they first began to become an issue when he was in La Liga playing for Villarreal.

Whilst with the Yellow Submarine in 2011, Rossi injured his knee and was out for six months. Upon his return, Rossi re-injured the knee and was forced to miss another 10 months. He did not return to the field for Villarreal, as the club then sold him to Fiorentina.

However, the striker is now healthy and available for selection.

Finding a home

Having bounced around throughout his career, the attacker seems to have found a home with Fiorentina. Although he hasn’t played a lot for the club since arriving in 2013, he has provided the team with results while being in the lineup.

Rossi has proved he can score goals and make an impact when healthy too as, in 26 games for the Italian outfit, he has netted a total of 17 goals.

His offensive output is no doubt a key factor in Fiorentina's decision to re-sign Rossi and give him another opportunity to get healthy and play. He is a force in any line-up as well as being a great leader.
