Both 1. FC Nürnberg and SC Paderborn 07 confirmed, on Wednesday, that a deal had been reached over Jakub Sylvestr. The forward will join Stefan Effenberg's side on loan until the end of the season.

Impressive with the Violets

When the Frankenstadion outfit shelled out €1.7m for the striker's services back two summers ago, they had seemingly picked up a bargain.

Sylvestr had just won the 2. Bundesliga golden boot and looked set to fire Nürnberg back to the Bundesliga at the first-time of asking.

Despite scoring in his first game against his old club, Erzgebirge Aue, he failed to kick on and never hit the heady heights of the previous campaign.

Sylvestr struggled in Franconia

He managed nine goals and five assists in an almost ever-present season, where nothing really clicked under René Weiler.

However, this year has seen him fall completely out of favour and make just three appearances in the entirety of the 2015-16 term.

Given the incredible form of Guido Burgstaller and Danny Blum's consistency, it is no real surprise that he has fallen foul to a lack of game time and is seeking a move.

Effenberg spoke to the media after they signed the striker, and said: "Jakub is a very mobile striker, who plays with a real eye for goal and yet  is very much a team player."

Sporting director Michael Born is expecting big things from the new signing, admitting he "has proven his quality in the 2. Bundesliga and can help with immediately with his experience".

Sylvestr follows Alessandro Schöpf (Schalke 04), Stefan Kutschke (Dynamo Dresden) and Willi Evseev (Holstein Kiel) out the door in the January window. It is clearly unclear as to whether or not there will be anymore outgoings.
