On Thursday morning, Chemnitzer FC announced that they had reached an agreement with Hertha BSC to loan Marius Gersbeck.

Can he earn himself a new deal with high-flying Hertha?

The talented stopper has received a contract at Chemnitz until June 2017, the same during as his deal at his parent club.

Therefore this switch has taken on added importance, as the 20-year-old is essentially playing for his future in the capital.

Both teams agreed to silence over the loan terms and agreements but Chemnitz confirmed his contract is valid for the 2. Bundesliga, as well as the 3. Liga.

Gersbeck's debut was one to remember

While the move carries plenty of weight and pressure, it is nothing that the youngster has not experienced before.

Gersbeck burst onto the scene when he was thrown in at the deep end at the Westfalenstadion against Borussia Dortmund.

The other Hertha goalkeepers had all picked up injuries, meaning his senior debut was in the final game of the Hinrunde against one of Europe's finest teams.

Despite conceding early on to Marco Reus, the then 18-year-old put in a fantastic performance with his fair share of vital saves to earn a shock 2-1 win.

A busy few weeks for Chemnitz, more to come?

Gersbeck is the latest deal to be done by the 3. Liga side, who have been extremely busy during the opening two weeks of the transfer window.

Christian Cappek (SV Wehen Wiesbaden), Marco Kehl-Gomez (SV Elversberg) and Alexander Nandzik (Jahn Regensburg, loan) have already left the club.

There has, however, been one notable arrival. Daniel Frahn, former of RB Leipzig, has been recruited from 1. FC Heidenheim in a bid to take the pressure off Anton Fink.

It is unclear whether or not there will be more moves made in January, but Chemnitz certainly mean business with the two high-profile signings so far.
