Despite conceding their first goals in this seasons competition, the goals from Sevilla's first leg win was enough for them to gain a spot in the Copa del Rey final, as they won 6-2 on aggregate, drawing 2-2 on the night.

Chances few and far between in Vigo

With a 4-0 lead from the first-leg, Sevilla were in a very comfortable position before the second-leg had even kicked off. However, Celta Vigo Head Coach Eduardo Berizzo had clearly set up his team to press the away side and try to force them into making errors.

Despite dominating the first half with a total of 62 percent possession, Sevilla’s solid defence shut out any opportunity that Os Celticos had.

The first chance of the game came in the fifth minute, when Michael Krohn-Dehli skipped inside the box before blasting the ball into the side netting. The Danish international squandered a brilliant chance to give his side an early lead and extend the aggregate score to 5-0.

The game dulled down until the 28th minute when John Guidetti burst through the Sevilla defence, only to see his shot saved brilliantly by Sergio Rico, even if the ball had gone in the net, it wouldn’t have stood as Guidetti was judged to have been offside.

This sparked a series of chances for the home side and they got even closer to scoring when Iago Aspas tried to cross to the back post, but Rico was there to intercept, albeit on his second attempt.

Guidetti then had a chance to score when Carles Planas crossed the ball toward the back post, but the Swedish international could only head the ball over the bar.

The deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute, when former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas played a magnificent 40-yard pass from his own half toward Fabian Orellana. Aspas then sprinted from the half-way line into the box and slotted the pass from Orellana into the back of the net.

Sevilla then had two chances in quick succession to equalize. The first was from Adil Rami who headed over a Krohn-Dehli cross over the bar. Then Vicente Iborra, headed another Krohn-Dehli cross onto the post.

Sevilla seal their passage to the Copa del Rey final

Celta continued to control the game in the second half and their first chance came in the 49th minute, when a freekick from Daniel Wass bounced unintentionally off Sergio Rico’s knee for a corner. The corner kick was then completely missed by Rico, which left Aspas the easy job of putting the ball into an open net. However, the Spaniard could only head the ball wide from five yards out.

Minutes later, Aspas redeemed himself when a Wass cross was punched by Rico and Aspas reacted very quickly to head the ball into the back of the net.

The home side grew in confidence and only needed two more goals to tie level on aggregate, but Ever Banega had other plans, as he gathered the ball just outside the box, he dribbled into area and drilled the ball low and hard beyond Celta keeper Ruben Blanco.

Now leading 5-2 on aggregate, Sevilla ended Celta’s chance of reaching the Copa del Rey final.  Nevertheless, this did not stop Celta Vigo from attacking, as Guidetti burst through one-on-one with Sergio Rico and the Swedish attacker was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded to the home side. Despite being the last man, Rico was only shown a yellow card.

Guidetti stepped up to take the penalty, but the former Manchester City player saw his spot-kick come crashing back off the post.

As the match ticked on, the team in sky blue knew their cup run was all but over, but they continued to give their fans an attacking display. Fabian Orellana was trying to score a goal for himself, but he couldn’t find a way past Rico and three minutes before the end, Los Rojiblancos put the final nail in their opposition’s coffin. Vitolo squared the ball for Yevhen Konoplyanka who tapped the ball into the back of the net, sealing his side’s place in the final.

2-2 at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos and a 6-2 aggregate win for Sevilla, who will now face FC Barcelona in the 2015-16 Copa del Rey final after they demolished Gary Neville’s Valencia 8-1 on aggregate.
