On the back of his best ever season Robert Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a move to football giants Real Madrid. The Champions League conquers have reportedly made the Polish striker one of their main targets this summer.

A link to the Spanish giants comes to no surprise following the year Lewandowski has had. The 27-year-old managed to score an incredible 32 goals in 32 league appearances during the 2015/2016 campaign. The Pole also managed to score three goals in the DFB-Pokal run that eventually saw Bayern Munich secure the trophy to complete the league and cup double.

In Europe, Lewandowski also showed his quality by finishing as the Champions League second top scorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo with nine goals as Bayern reached the semi-final stage.

Bayern are very keen to keep their talisman and the club's technical director Michael Reschke has made that crystal clear to Real Madrid, and anyone else who are interested in trying to lure Lewandowski away from the Allianz Arena

Speaking to Italy's Radio CRC Reschke was adamant the forward would be in Bayern colours next season, "He's going to be playing for Bayern Munich again next season, there's absolutely no doubt about it"

The comment comes just days after Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge came out with a similar retort to warn off Real Madrid.

Reschke then went on to speak about how highly he's rated at the Bavarian club, "He still has three years on his contract here and we know that we have the best striker in the world in our squad. That is why there is no chance that he will be sold."

Higuain to Bavravia?

At this moment in time a move away from the Bundesliga seems very unlikely for Lewandowski, so a move for a replacement won't be needed. One name linked to Bayern as a potential replacement for Lewandowski was Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain. That comes as no surprise either as, like Lewandowski, the Argentine also recorded his best ever season with a highly impressive league tally of 36 goals. This saw him make history by scoring the most goals in a season beating Milan’s Gunnar Nordahl, who previously scored 35 goals back in the 1949-50 season.

Although his season was impressive it won't tempt Bayern into snapping up the Napoli forward, due to the simple fact that Reschke and Bayern believe they have the best forward in the world: "Gonzalo Higuain is one of the three or four best strikers in the world, but we've got the very best right now with Lewandowski." He added, "That is why it makes no sense for us or for the player to sign another striker."

After his tremendous season it's hard to disagree with Reschke. however there is still plenty of the summer left and Real Madrid will certainly be keeping a careful eye on Lewandowski as he represents Poland in the European Championships. Only time will tell if Bayern can remain strong and keep hold of one of their prized assets.
