And there goes the final whistle in Paris. Not quite the game for the neutral, but the result will favour Switzerland much more than Romania. The Swiss will feel they should have won the game, having carved many chances throughout the game.

Bogdan Stancu's penalty gives Romania the advantage at half-time. But Switzerland have been the better side and could even be in the lead had they been more clinical in front of goal. Seferovic and Dzemaili have had their best chances, but the Romanians have sat back and counter-attacked well.

03' first effort occurs when Dzemaili drags an effort, which is blocked by the Romanian back four. Xhaka then has a go at goal which is also deflected away from goal and Tatarusanu gathers with ease.
Switzerland used a recently introduced rule there, with only one player taking the centre to begin the game. New regulations state the ball does not have to go forward.

Who are the key players from both sides? Romania were unlucky to come away from Paris with no points, but Nicolae Stanciu announced himself on the European stage with his performance. For Swizterland? A poor performance saw them put just one goal past Albania, but surely Granit Xhaka & Co. will get better as the tournament goes on.
One dilemma for Lordanescu ahead of the game is whether to start left-back Razvan Rat, who is 35-years-old. The Rayo Vallecano defender will come up against Stoke City's Xherdan Shaqiri, which could prove to be a mis-match.
That night in Paris was certainly one to remember for many Romanians. Press and former players didn't get Anghel Lordanescu’s side a chance, but they matched France for 80 minutes. The Romania manager did however state that it may be difficult to lift the morale of his players after losing out to a late goal.
Romania had differing experiences during their opening game, losing to France thanks to a late wonder-goal from Dimitri Payet. Olivier Giroud headed France ahead midway through the second half, but Anghel Lordanescu’s side fought back, equalising via a penalty from Bogdan Stancu. However, Payet’s goal was sensational – taking a touch with his right foot before shooting directly into the top corner with his left foot. Despite the defeat, Romania can take several positives from the game, particularly their attacking threat and their set-pieces, and will be a much tougher test for Switzerland than Albania.
During the first round of matches, Switzerland beat ten-man Albania 1-0 in Lens, courtesy of Fabian Schar’s fifth-minute goal. The game saw history being made, due to Swiss midfielder, Granit Xhaha, face his brother, Taulant Xhaka – becoming the first siblings in European Championships history to play for opposing sides. Albania captain Lorik Cana was sent off nine minutes before half-time, but Albania still managed to create several chances, highlighting Switzerland’s back four as an area for teams to exploit during the tournament.
Similar to their opponents, Romania finished runners-up in their qualifying group, a point behind Northern Ireland in Group F. In fact, they were unbeaten during qualifying – even being the only side to beat Michael O’Neill’s side in the group – but their inconsistency, exemplified by their five draws, meant they were unable to hold down their place at the top of the six-team table. For a qualifying team, Tricolorii also relatively struggled in front of goal, scoring just eleven goals in ten games.
Switzerland, the co-hosts of the 2008 edition of the tournament, qualified for the finals of the tournament having finished runners-up in Group E. Rossocrociati advanced fairly comfortably, finishing five points ahead of third-placed Slovenia, although group winners, England, tallied 30 points – nine more than Switzerland – after winning each of their group matches. Vladimir Petkovic’s side lost just three games during qualifying, suffering successive 2-0 defeats to the Three Lions as well as a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Slovenia. Despite the three defeats, they scored an impressive 24 goals during the ten games, although eleven were netted against international minnows, San Marino.
