Sarri tips Roberto Insigne to become "one of the best"

Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has heaped the praise on Roberto Insigne, the younger brother to club star Lorenzo.

"Leave him with me," said Sarri. "He'll learn a lot with us and become one of the best" the coach was quoted as saying by La Repubblica.

His words came after an approach came from Serie B's Carpi for the forward on deadline day, who has spent three of his four years on the books of the Partenopei out on loan at Perugia, Reggina and most recently Avellino.

Insigne, who is three years the junior of Lorenzo, has just one Serie A appearance to his name in a Napoli shirt, some 130 less than Insigne senior.

The 22-year-old winger is said to have improved immensely over pre-season but has yet to taste any action this term but has been an unused sub in the San Paolo club' first two games against Pescara and Milan. It is more than likely that in the coming weeks, especially after these comments he will play a part, alongside his brother on the opposite wing. With Napoli's recruitment over the summer heavily based on building for the future it could be the case that Insigne is seen as a more long term option hence his lack of playing time at present.

Plenty interest over the mercato

Insigne was subject to interest not only from Carpi over the course of the mercato. Ternana, Latina and former loan club Perugia all showed an interest in the Italian who has been included in Napoli's 25 man Champions League squad list, submitted yesterday ahead of group stage games with Benfica, Besiktas and Dynamo Kyiv

New signing Lorenzo Tonelli wasn't afforded a place in the squad nor was out of favour Omar El Kaddouri. Other summer additions, Nikola Maksimovic, Marko Rog, Amadou Diawara, Piotr Zielinski and Arek Milik were all included in the list.
