Former Inter majority shareholder Erick Thohir labelled the club's mercato that saw many new faces come in as "remarkable."

He spoke with MetroTVNews, in Jakarta in his homeland Indonesia and said "There were already some good elements in our team" but "to add five more" is "something remarkable."

He went on to say, "We expect Cristian Ansaldi to become one of our main defenders" while adding that he hopes "Ever Banega, Joao Mario, Antonio Candreva and Gabigol can represent the new backbone of the team."

Thohir concluded his interview saying he believes the "transfer market in Italy was much more interesting" than elsewhere in the critiscally acclaimed top five leagues in England, Spain, Germany and France. "Napoli, Inter and Juventus were very aggressive."

Six new faces

Despite Thohir only speaking of five new faces, there was in fact a sixth in Caner Erkin who was one of the first signed. However, sensationally, the Turkish full back has already moved on loan to Turkish champions Besiktas and will likely complete a permanent transfer at the end of the season as he is not viewed as part of new coach Frank de Boer's plans.

Despite a solid load of incoming players, Inter were unable to shift a lot of the deadwood at the club, amongst them the likes of Andrea Ranocchia, Felipe Melo and Yuto Nagatomo. Stevan Jovetic' move to Fiorentina fell through in the last hour meaning Inter, barring sitting in the bottom three come December, will have to pay Manchester City the obligation fee of 14.5 million euros in the Montenegrin's loan contract agreed this time last year.

Inter haven't gotten off to the best of starts this term, picking up a point from a possible six. A shock defeat on the first match day away to Chievo Verona was followed up by a 1-1 draw against Palermo.
