In what the club confirmed would be their final deal of the summer, SpVgg Greuther Fürth signed Erhun Obanor on Wednesday afternoon.

No transfer fee has been made public but it was announced that the defender had penned a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.

The 21-year-old has been training with the Shamrocks for a while, and will be happy to finally get started with his future all sorted.

Joining from MFM FC, the Nigerian youth international will join training for the first time on Thursday and has been handed the number three shirt.

Competition in central defence

Obanor faces a battle to get into the starting line-up, with three established centre-backs already at the club.

Marcel Franke and Marco Caligiuri are the preferred duo at the moment but with Lukas Gugganig waiting in the wings, he will have to fight his way into the eleven.

Nicolai Rapp is another option while on loan from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, though he has been used more as a defensive midfielder.

Yildirim and Ruthenbeck comment on Obanor's arrival

After the deal was finally confirmed sporting director, Ramazan Yildirim and head coach, Stefan Ruthenbeck had their say on the move.

Yildirim told the club website, "Erhun is a very talented player. His dream to play in the Olympics didn't come off, although he can now live his dream to play in Germany."

Ruthenbeck also gave his thoughts, "We will provide him with all the necessary help, so that he can get used to ourselves and settle in with us as quickly as possible."

Obanor could make his debut for the Shamrocks this Sunday, as they travel to Fortuna Düsseldorf for a 12:00PM kick-off at the ESPRIT arena.
