Scotland were left disappointed at Hampden Park, with James McArthur managing to salvage a 1-1 draw with minnows Lithuania.
Gordon Strachan's side dominated the opening 45 minutes, with good chances from Callum Paterson and Chris Martin but couldn't find the net.
Martin managed to hit the post early in the second half, before Fedor Cernych fired home the opening goal. James Forrest, Cernych and Leigh Griffiths had good chances before McArthur stroke the equaliser a minute from the end.
Starting strong
Strachan started an unchanged side from their win over Malta, and they had some decent opportunities in the first period.
The first chance came in the 15th minute, when Paterson came in to get his head on Matt Richie's free-kick, but his effort was just inches wide of Ernestas Setkus' post.
The next opportunity followed ten minutes later as Robert Snodgrass managed to steal the ball and sent it in for Martin. The striker did well to get a touch in with pressure from Georgas Friedgeimas but his effort was once again just wide.
The game picking up
Both sides came flying out of the traps in the second period, with both looking for the opening goal.
Lithuania had hardly troubled David Marshall's goal, but he was called into action to parry Arvydas Novikovas' effort which was cleared by Russell Martin.
Scotland then took over once again, with the best opportunity of the game up to that point. Andrew Robertson did well again down the wing to get it to Martin, but his header just glances wide of the post.
Falling behind
The Scots were made to rue their missed opportunities, as Lithuania took a shock lead just on the hour mark.
Edgaras Jankauskas' side produced a great team move, with Cerynch playing an excellent one-two with Vykintas Slivka who put him through on goal before coolly slotting in at the near post.
Scotland almost had an instant reply, Robertson put in another dangerous ball which was parried by Setkus straight into the path of Forrest, but the half-volley was once again wide of the mark.
A way back into it
Both sides continued to push eachother to the limit as the clock ticked down, and both sides had excellent opportunities to find the net.
The first fell to the away side with 25 minutes to play, with Slivka heading down to Cernych who was looking for his brace, but his effort was just wide.
Scotland then took over as they looked for an equaliser, Lee Griffiths looked to do just that as he dived in for the header from Snodgrass' pass, but it was straight into the arms of Setkus.
Snatched at the death
The Scots persistence eventually paid off, as they managed to save a point with a minute of normal time to spare.
A long punt forward was brought down by Grant Hanley, which proved perfect for McArthur as he glanced it past Setkus from eight yards.
