Final Thoughts
This was a deserved victory for Juventus, whose quality outclassed a gritty Parma side. But it wasn't the star, Cristiano Ronaldo, who made the difference. It was a very scrappy backheel goal from the captain, Chiellini, after a backheel pass from his center back partner, Bonucci.

Ronaldo did have a lot of chances, as well as a goal called back for offside. Despite the disparity, Parma had some great chances of their own through Inglese, and never stopped fighting. Even in the final minutes, when their tired legs were obvious, they fought back to keep from conceding any more goals.

The Scudetto holders start their campaign with an away win, despite missing their coach, while Parma gave a strong performance, even if they missed out on the result.

The sold out crowd at the Stadio Ennio Tardini were passionate about their team

Wardrobe malfunction
At the beginning of the match, D'Averso was asked to change his white shirt, since it was too close to Parma's kits. So he changed into a dark blue shirt, which ironically is similar in color to Juve's kit.
Recap of the first half
Juventus lead, deservedly, with more chances on goal as well as the Chiellini goal and Ronaldo's goal being called off after a VAR review determined he was offside. They looked a little shaky at first, but they found their confidence and are connecting well to create plenty of opportunities.

Parma may be the underdogs, but they have created a few chances of their own, primarily from Inglese and Hernani. To their credit, they are mentally strong and didn't give up after conceding. With chances at both ends, this match is still wide open.

Costa has faith in Sarri
Although it is assistant coach Martusciello who will be on the bench today, Douglas Costa had praise for Sarri and his preparation of the team: “Sarri has prepared us very well and so did his staff. We have great faith in this project, regardless of whether or not he is on the bench. We know his message is getting through.”
Barillá looking for a third goal vs. Juventus
Ahead of the match, Parma midfielder Antonino Barillá said “I’ve been lucky to score twice against Juve in the past and I hope to make it three today.”
No love for Buffon
Although Buffon's contract requires him to make 8 appearances this season as he attempts to pass Paolo Maldini in the all time Serie A appearances record, neither Sarri nor Martusciello offered him the start today against his former club.
Looking at the Lineups
D'averso does have Grassi and Kucka on the bench, both recovering from injuries, but not starting.

Meanwhile, Martusciello, filling in for Sarri, has opted not to give starts to any of the new summer signings, going with the tried and true defense.

Parma Callups

Juventus insist they're stronger than ever
With Sarri recovering from pneumonia, Juventus Vice President Pavel Nedved gave Friday's press conference.

"Juventus are historically built to win and we will try again this year. The team is responding well, we have two important players for each role and we feel strong."

"Our confidence is formed because of our players. I believe that we have created one of the best teams in Europe, and with a coach that will have the necessary time to develop his game."

D'Aversa prepared to take on the giants
Roberto D'Aversa spoke at a press conference on Friday:

"We'll have to play the perfect game tomorrow against a really strong team that will come here to get points. I have no doubts about what the crowd will do to help us get points."

"Juventus will look to control the game and move the ball a lot. Beyond the organisation of the team, it's down to individuals and we must be ready to play a very strong side."

Juventus Team News
The biggest news from Juve is that Maurizio Sarri will not be on the bench, as he was just diagnosed this week with pneumonia.

Also missing will be Marco Pjaca and Mattia Perin, both recovering from long term injuries.

However, with new defensive reinforcements like Matthijs De Ligt and Danilo, both of whom could start, Juventus will have plenty of depth on the pitch.

Parma Team News
D'Aversa will have most of his squad available to choose from for the near capacity crowd. One exception will be Juraj Kucka, who is doubtful with a calf muscle injury.

Also in doubt is midfielder Alberto Grassi, who is recovering from a serious cruciate ligament injury. Lastly, Andrea Adorante, their new signing is also recovering from his long term injury.

For Juventus, only a win will do
After years of dominating Serie A, the Juventus faithful are accustomed to winning in the league, especially against a team like Parma.

However, with a little bit of a shaky preseason and plenty of personnel changes, nothing is certain for the reigning champions. Playing away from home makes the challenge that much greater, so Sarri's men will have to be perfect to bring home the three points.

Parma looking to stun the Bianconeri
The last time these two teams met, Parma held Juventus to a historic draw at Juventus stadium. However, i Crociati finished the season a disappointing 14th.

D'Aversa's men will be looking to take all three points from the serial Scudetto winners to get their season off to a perfect start in front of their home fans.
