Full Time: Union Berlin 0-2 Bayern Munich

It's safe to say that it hasn't been the most exciting of games from Berlin this evening.

Both sides have left much to be desired in the match.

One of the few positives is the partnership between Alphonso Davies and Serge Gnabry that has been highlighted in the game.

Against a defensively weak Frankfurt side next week, they could be deadly

Despite the scoreline, Union have looked positive going forward and have been strong at the back.

Union Berlin: Starting Lineup

Die Eisern have announced their starting lineup for today's game.

New substitution rule

In today's game, sides will be allowed to make five substitutions across the match.

Although they can make five substitutions, this can only happen during three stoppages in play

Union without head-coach Fischer

A quick reminder that Union Berlin head-coach Urs Fischer will not be present at the game today.

He returned to Switzerland this week after a bereavement in his family.

A different experience in Berlin

It will be a very different experience for those at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, with no supporters in attendance.

Union Berlin's 80% standing stadium in Köpenick has become famous around the globe for its atmosphere, and it could have been the difference for them today against Bayern.

Will die Eisern be able to adapt to not having their vocal support behind them today?

Hansi Flick on Union Berlin

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, FC Bayern head coach Hansi Flick praised Union:

“We’re up against Union Berlin, a team with a great mentality. They’re a promoted side and are at home to FC Bayern.

"We can expect an aggressive team who will be direct in their attacks. We have to stand up against that.

"It won’t be enough with footballing ability alone. We have to add mentality and get stuck in.”

Hoffmann on how restart will affect Bayern

With Urs Fischer not at the game and returning to his family in Switzerland for personal reason, Markus Hoffmann will take charge on Sunday afternoon. Hoffman spoke about how he thinks the will affect their opposition in his pre-match press conference:

"I don't think the surrounding conditions will impact Bayern much," assistant coach Hoffmann said.

"This team is incredibly experienced, so we don't need to discuss the quality of the team. They are a very good team and that's hardly surprising.

"We have to concentrate on our own performance and not worry about our opponents. We're going to put everything we've got into it to make the best game possible."

Bayern in title race

As will be the same with every game for the rest of the season, picking up all three points is crucial to FC Bayern's title race.

After Borussia Dortmund's 4-0 victory in yesterday's Revierderby, Bayern are now only a single point ahead of their main rivals in the race to lift the Bundesliga trophy, and three ahead of Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The Bavarians cannot afford to drop a single point if they are to win the Bundesliga title.

Union performing well in first Bundesliga season

Although they are in the bottom-half of the table, Union Berlin are performing relatively well in their first-ever Bundesliga season.

They currently are on thirty points, seven off the relegation-playoff place.

They have won twice, lost twice, and drawn once in their previous five games, winning nine across the entire season under Urs Fischer.

This evening’s game will round up the second day of Bundesliga fixtures since it returned from being stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
